Atma
•Atma is not limited by the limitations of the body
•Atma does not die when the body perishes
• When the body is dies the Atma cannot be detected but it continues to exist
• Jnana yoga is the spiritual sadhana that consists of shifting our identification from the perishable anātmā to the imperishable Ātmā
•By this one would attain eternal peace, security and happiness
•The body as only an instrument to conduct the worldly transactions
Prakriyas are tools used in Spirituality
One of the most powerful methods is dṛk-dṛśya-vivekaḥ;

dēhinō'sminyathādēhēkaumāraṃ yauvanaṃ jarā |
tathādēhāntaraprāptirdhīrastatranamuhyati || 2.13
Just as the Self which is in this body (goes through) boyhood, youth and old
age, so also (It goes through) the attainment of another body also. A wise man
does not worry over such a thing.
•I as Atma am eternal
•Body mind goes through birth, death, modifications
•This is similar to our clothes - Ramakrishna
•Body goes through various changes but I am the same
•I am the constant factor
•A discriminative person (dhīraḥ) does not grieve

Ātmā is Real (Sathya) and Independent (Svatantraḥ)

ubhayōrapi dṛṣṭō'ntastvanayōstattvadarśibhiḥ || 2.16 ||
विध्यते न भावः vidhyate na bhāvaḥ There is no existence असतः asataḥ for the unreal तु दृष्टः tu dṛṣṭaḥ is indeed known तत्वदर्शिभिः tatvadarśibhiḥ by the seers of Reality.
nāsatō vidyatē bhāvō nābhāvō vidyatē sataḥ |
ubhayōrapi dṛṣṭō'ntastvanayōstattvadarśibhiḥ || 2.16 ||
•Ātmā is real and anātmā is unreal (mithyaḥ).
• Ātmā has independent existence whereas anātmā’s is dependent
• The wise use the body-mind complex for all worldly transactions but do not rely on for lasting security.

antavanta imē dēhā nityasyōktāḥ śarīriṇaḥ|
anāśinō'pramēyasya tasmādyudhyasva bhārata || 2.18 ||
It is said – Perishable are these bodies, which belong to the eternal, imperishable and un-objectifiable Self. Therefore fight, Oh Arjuna
•Body is perishable
•Perishable body belongs to ātmā
•Atma is eternal and aprameya
•Arjuna is instructed to fight this righteous war
•Camera and the picture
•Worldly creation around us
•Atma - Aprameya
Conclusion
•tasmādyudhyasva bhārata
•Body
•Atma
•Krishna’s advice to Arjuna:
Ø Fight this righteous war
Ātmā is Incomprehensible (aprameyaḥ)
•antavanta imē dēhā nityasyōktāḥ śarīriṇaḥ|
•anāśinō'pramēyasya tasmādyudhyasva bhārata || 2.18 ||
Ātmā is Incomprehensible (aprameyaḥ)
Prameyaḥ means object of knowledge
Aprameyaḥ means it is never the object of knowledge
One will never know the Ātmā as an object
Ātmā is the experiencer and not the experienced;
It is the seer but not the seen;
It is the subject and not an object

ya ēnaṃ vētti hantāraṃ yaścainaṃ manyatē hatam|

The one who considers this (Self) to be a killer and the one who considers
this (Self) to be killed, both of them, do not know. This (Self) does not kill; nor is (It) killed.
Ātmā is Non-doer (akartā) and Non-enjoyer (abhoktā)

ubhau tau na vijānītō nāyaṃ hanti na hanyatē || 2.19 ||
•Ātmā does not take part in any action.
•Like space or light does not participate in any action
•Without space or light no transactions can take place.
•Ātmā is all-pervading, it is immovable.
•If Ātmā is an akartā and an abhoktā, no pāpa or puṇy;
• It is unaffected by karmas.
•No death , no rebirth.

acchēdyō'yamadāhyō'yamaklēdyō'śōṣya ēva ca|
nityaḥ sarvagataḥ sthāṇuracalō'yaṁ sanātanaḥ || 2.24 ||
This (Ātma) cannot be cut, nor burnt, cannot be wetted, and cannot be dried.
This is eternal, all-pervading changeless, immovable, and unborn.
Four important points of Consciousness
Consciousness is not part, product, property of this body
Consciousness is an independent entity which pervades and enlivens this body
Consciousness is not limited by the boundaries of this body
Consciousness continues to exist, even after this body collapses
acchēdyō'yamadāhyō'yamaklēdyō'śōṣya ēva ca|
nityaḥ sarvagataḥ sthāṇuracalō'yaṁ sanātanaḥ || 2.24 ||
•अच्छेध्यः acchēdhyaḥ cannot be cut, •अदाह्यः adāhyaḥ cannot be burnt •अक्लेध्यः akledhyaḥ cannot be wetted, •च एव अशोष्यः ca eva aśōṣyaḥ cannot also be dried, • नित्यः nityaḥ is eternal, •सर्वगतः sarvagataḥ all pervading •स्थाणुः sthāṇuḥ changeless, •अचलः acalaḥ immovable, •सनातनः sanātanaḥ eternal.
•Ātmā is immortal
•We have the innermost urge to be immortal
•We are by nature immortal
