pañcaitānimahābāhōkāraṇāninibōdhamē |
sāṅkhyēkṛtāntēprōktānisiddhayēsarvakarmaṇām || 18.13 ||
Five features of consciousness
1.It is not a part; a property, or a product of the body.
2.It is an independent principle which pervades and enlivens the body.
3.It is not limited by the boundaries of the body.
4.It continues to survive even after the death of the body.
5.It is not available for transaction, because for transaction consciousness requires a medium
FIVE FACTORS
adhiṣṭhānaṃ tathā kartā karaṇaṃ ca pṛthagvidham |
vividhāśca pṛthakcēṣṭā daivaṃ caivātra pañcamam || 18.14 ||
1.Annamaya kōśa à anatomical, physical, visible part of the personality;
2.Prāṇamaya kōśa à physiology part consisting of the bodily functions,
3.Manōmaya kōśa à psychological or emotional personality, consisting of love, compassion, jealousy, hatred, anger.
4.Vijñānamaya kōśa à the rational faculty; the thinking faculty.
5.Daivam à adhiṣṭānā devatha
śarīravāṅmanōbhiryat karma prārabhatē naraḥ |
nyāyyaṃ vā viparītaṃ vā pañcaitē tasya hētavaḥ || 18.15 ||
•Activities of animals called à Cesta
•They DO NOT get karma phalam, papam or punyam
•Claim that akartā abhōktā ātma as yourselves, instead of identifying with the body.
tatraivaṃ sati kartāramātmānaṃkēvalaṃtuyaḥ |
paśyatyakṛtabuddhitvānnasapaśyatidurmatiḥ || 18.16 ||
•Mixture of acētana aṁśa and cētana aṁśa
•Durmathi means whose mind is polluted by ignorance and is confused
•Vedantic study brings about self-correction
•Most of our problems in life have simple solutions
yasyanāhaṅkṛtōbhāvōbuddhiryasyanalipyatē |
hatvā'pisaimām̐ llokānhantinanibadhyatē || 18.17 ||
Contrast between a wise and an ignorant person
I discover that I have been, I am and I will ever be free.
Thus, jnana yoga gives MOKSHA.

ब्राह्मणक्षत्रियविशां शूद्राणां च परन्तप | कर्माणि प्रविभक्तानि स्वभावप्रभवैर्गुणै: || 41||
brāhmaṇa-kṣhatriya-viśhāṁ śhūdrāṇāṁ cha parantapa karmāṇi pravibhaktāni svabhāva-prabhavair guṇaiḥ
यत: प्रवृत्तिर्भूतानां येन सर्वमिदं ततम् | स्वकर्मणा तमभ्यर्च्य सिद्धिं विन्दति मानव: || 46||
yataḥ pravṛittir bhūtānāṁ yena sarvam idaṁ tatam sva-karmaṇā tam abhyarchya siddhiṁ vindati mānavaḥ
असक्तबुद्धि: सर्वत्र जितात्मा विगतस्पृह: | नैष्कर्म्यसिद्धिं परमां सन्न्यासेनाधिगच्छति || 49||
asakta-buddhiḥ sarvatra jitātmā vigata-spṛihaḥ naiṣhkarmya-siddhiṁ paramāṁ sannyāsenādhigachchhati
karmaṇi pravibhaktāni : Duties are allotted for everyone to contribute to the society
brāhmaṇa kṣatriyaḥ viṣam śudranam cha- Brāhmaṇa karma, Kṣatriyā karma, vaiśya karma and śūdra karma
svabhāva prabhavai hi guṇaihi : Lord Krishna recommends prakr̥ti svabhāva as the best basis for choosing one’s profession
Svadharma: action in accordance with our nature for citta śuddhiḥ
Three factors to change our attitude for performing our work as worship are:
1.Karma with Ishwara arpana bhava
2.Karma phalam
3.Karma phala dhāthā
Yathāḥ : cētana tatvam
Pravṛttiḥ : God is Jagat Karanam
Yēna sarvamidaṁ tatam: Sensitise our mind to see the Lord, everywhere, then the whole universe becomes a temple
Svakarmaṇā: make Karma as an offering to the Lord
Siddhiṁ vindati mānavaḥ: Karma yōgi finds happiness in the karma itself
asaktabuddhiḥ sarvatra: World is neither a source of joy or sorrow
Jitātma: Gain mastery over body-mind-sense organs
vigataspṛhaḥ: Free from desires
Sarvatra: Under all circumstances
sanyāsēna adhigacchati: Systematic study of vēdānta vicāra - vēdānta śr̥avanam, mananam, and nidhidhyāsanam
naiṣkarma siddhiṁ adhigacchati: State of Actionlessness
“One who sees Inaction in action and action in inaction is intelligent among men”
Our Journey should be from being a - bhōgi to yōgi to tyāgi
